Aqua Aerobics, knows as water aerobics, refers to the performance of aerobic exercises in shallow and deep water such as within a swimming pool. As a type of resistance training, the benefits from this form of exercise is vast, allowing the body to be supported and protected against the risk of muscle and joint injury whilst aiding in weight loss, the lowering of blood sugar levels and successfully controlling stress.
Over and beyond this, the gravity of floatation allows for a greater range of motion and a gradual method for building tamina and strength. This is especially important for individuals who have underwent a surgery, are recovering from n injury or suffer chronic conditions in which fragility of the bones and ligaments is present such as arthritis. This is because exercising in water has the additional effect of reducing the intensity of shock and providing a cushioning effect agains impacts.
As a general observation, most aqua aerobic classes last between 45-55 minutes, under the supevision and coordination of a certified water aerobics trainer.
